UPDATE:
The Cleansing Waters Committee is in the process of restructuring how we operate. Rather than inform the referring agencies when volunteers are available, we now try to make ourselves available at the client’s convenience. As you can imagine, this can be a challenge.
The basics however have not changed. The contact person from the agency calls Karen with the time the client would like to do laundry. Karen then calls the volunteers to see if two people are available at that time. (It is required that we “work” in pairs).
We get the laundry basket from Karen at the office and we meet the client at the laundromat. We arrive 15 minutes before the client comes. We are currently using the laundry facility on Baker Street. The client handles the laundry, we do not. We put the quarters in the washing machines and proceed from there.
Sometimes, if the client would like, we stay and chat until laundry is done. Sometimes the client needs to leave. We then leave an agreed amount with the client to dry the clothes and we are free to go.
